Meet the Founder –
Sara Hörberg
Hej! I’m Sara, founder of The Swedish Teacher and a passionate educator with over 20 years of experience in teaching Swedish as a second language. I hold a master’s in Swedish as a Second Language and a bachelor’s in Pedagogy, both from Uppsala University.
After nearly a decade at Folkuniversitetet, I founded The Swedish Teacher in 2009 to explore online language teaching. Since then, I’ve helped students from all over the world—from professionals and university staff to heritage learners—reach their language goals.
Today, I divide my time between teaching, running The Swedish Teacher i Uppsala AB, and working as an assistant professor at Uppsala University. I’m a certified SWEDEX examiner, specializing in exam preparation and Swedish for medical professionals.
Having lived abroad for over ten years, I understand the challenges of adapting to a new language and culture. That experience shapes everything I do—helping students feel confident, capable, and connected through Swedish.
